My Dear Friends,
Where do I begin? The AGM and our 30
year Celebration of Letís Face It in May were absolutely
wonderful! We had the greatest honour of welcoming HR
Highness Princess Michael of Kent, our Patron to open
our celebration. HR did more than that, she humorously
handed out the prizes to our Gold Ticket winners,
entertaining us and most touchingly gave us a most
touching account of her own personal experiences. It
was a joy to have her presence.
We welcomed our Letís Face It friends
from all over the country. Representatives from Wales,
Kent, London, the Midlands, the North and Ireland.
There were ninety delegates some of whom had been with
LFI from the beginning. Good wishes were sent from
Japan, Canada, America, Germany and Australia.
The venue at the Royal College of
Surgeons was excellent, the catering was delicious Ė
especially the Cream teas Ė nearly as good as the
Queenís Garden Party! Many of our friends wished the
day had carried on until the evening as the Networking
with one another was bountiful. For me personally, I
was humbled and honoured to be present with such
courageous and inspirational people. Especially, our
two Junior LFI members, Jonny and Ellen who was
supported by her family all the way from Germany.
There were three panels of speakers,
two of whom were professionals, each one told of their
personal experience; how they coped with facial cancer,
burns and congenital disfigurement. How they came to
learn of Letís Face It and how we were able to support
and help them. They were truly inspirational.
The two young people stole the show
and there wasnít a dry eye in the room. Jonny shared his
story with us and then played us two short pieces on his
recorder Allegro by Mozart and a special piece composed
by his music teacher, The Emerging Butterfly. Jonny
thought this really relevant for our LFI friends.
Ellenís speech touched our hearts and she courageously
continued sharing her story. To close, Ellen performed
an emotional display of modern dance, a gift she so
obviously excels in. Our thanks to Felix, Ellenís
brother who took so many photographs and also, my
daughter-in-law, Michelle. We hope you enjoy seeing
the photographs of the day.
